World-renowned for his research in child survival, blindness prevention, and the interface between public health and clinical medicine, Sommer will share his experiences in the field and present his perspective on the future of global public health.

Today’s world faces challenges of an extraordinary magnitude: the economic crisis, energy shortages and opportunities, global health issues, and the role and power of the digital world. USC’s 2009 Global Conference will bring together leading experts in each of these areas to examine the challenges and explore the potential for change. Formal presentations, panel discussions and multiple networking venues will provide conference participants with a unique opportunity to engage with the leaders in these fields and explore ideas and solutions.

Global Health Lecture Series:
Visions for Change
The Institute welcomes world-renowned global health leaders to USC to share their experience and to discuss the major issues of global health with faculty and students. Speakers are selected in collaboration with, and co-hosted by, different schools throughout the university, reflecting USC's multidisciplinary approach to global health. Each distinguished guest delivers a keynote lecture open to the entire Trojan Family.

 Sonya Soni, 2009 MPH Graduate, traveled to India to study malnutrition as a human rights violation with support from the Institute's research immersion grant program.
|
 Cinematic Arts Professor Doe Mayer travelled to Thailand to work with ThaiHealth Promotion Foundation and their partner organizations. She delivered a series of lectures on new ideas about entertainment education and presented a model of ways to link health messages into commercial television programming. While there, she explored new initiatives and possibilities for the USC to work collaboratively with ThaiHealth.
